The mind behind the machines: Sebastian Kampa’s role in shaping delfort

Meet Sebastian Kampa

When Sebastian Kampa talks about his journey at delfort, he does so with a mix of pride, humility, and a smile that hints at just how far he has come. Joining deutsche benkert in 2006 as a young pre‑press operator, he never expected to become so deeply immersed in the world of specialty paper. Looking back, he still remembers the moment of surprise on his first day – he had no idea how complex and fascinating the entire process behind these products truly was.

Ready to step into his world for a moment? Let’s jump right in.

Growing with the company

My journey at delfort reflects what this company stands for: collaboration, continuous learning, and the drive to perform. After just a few months, I moved from pre‑press to the printing presses – first as a stand‑in operator, then as a full operator, and eventually as a machine operator. I’ve always enjoyed improving things, trying out solutions, and learning from those around me. That mindset helped me progress step by step.

Over time, I started taking on deputy shift supervisor responsibilities, regularly stepping in when needed, until I became a full‑time Shift Supervisor in 2023. This development didn’t happen by chance. Workshops, training sessions, and cross‑departmental exchanges helped me build the confidence to collaborate more openly – I’ll admit that, in the beginning, I sometimes hesitated to approach more experienced people. But once I saw that we all face similar challenges, I realized how much teamwork and shared expertise drive this place forward.

A culture built on trust and openness

People often ask me what keeps someone at one company for twenty years. For me, it’s a combination of future prospects, stability, development opportunities, and a workplace atmosphere that continues to evolve. At the Herne site, the culture has become more open, modern, and cooperative over the years. Feeling appreciated and trusted by my supervisors plays a huge role in my motivation – so does seeing how delfort continues to invest in the future of our location.

One of the moments I’m most proud of was being invited to the department manager’s office and asked to take over as Shift Supervisor. It wasn’t a dramatic moment, but a meaningful one. It felt like recognition for years of hard work, and that trust still motivates me every day.

Teamwork, structure, and a good dose of empathy

In my role as shift supervisor, I enjoy the combination of structured processes, problem‑solving, and working closely with different teams. Seeing what we achieve together by the end of a busy day is incredibly motivating. It reflects the values that define delfort – empathy in how we support each other, creativity in solving daily challenges, teamwork across departments, and a level of performance we can be proud of.

Trainings like our “Let’s Talk” communication workshops helped me grow as a leader. They taught me how to navigate conversations more easily, stay calm in stressful moments, and make sure my team feels seen and heard.

All the years I've been here and worked towards taking on more responsibility have paid off. I'm very grateful that they've placed their trust in me and that I get to prove myself every day that I'm the right person for the job.

Life beyond the printing hall

Outside of work, I find balance in the simple things – coming home to my girlfriend and our little son, who was born in 2025. Their smiles can erase even the most stressful day. I still enjoy sports and riding my Harley, but family now gives me the biggest recharge after a long shift. That balance helps me approach each day with focus and commitment.

Advice for the next generation

When new colleagues join my shift, I always tell them the same thing: if you put in the effort, the opportunities will come. My own story shows exactly that. delfort is a place where people can grow – by asking questions and by tackling challenges together.
